Contemporary Residence Features Z600 Galvanised Iron

May 9, 2016

True Blue Roofing Pty Ltd are currently working on the metal roofing and architectural wall cladding components of this new contemporary residence in Lara.  Lara is a residential Town, 18 km north-east of Geelong, inland from the Princes Freeway to Melbourne. The home features a wide range of steel cladding profiles and finishes including a Z600 Galvanised Iron ‘wing’.

This residence features a huge range of metal roofing and wall cladding applications… Let us walk you through the various aspects of the project:

  • Z600 Galvanised Iron Single Lock standing seam cladding
    Custom Galvanised Iron cladding

Custom Galvanised Iron Single Lock standing seam cladding made and installed by True Blue Roofing Pty Ltd

This “Gal” wing of the residence features Z600 Galvanised Iron single lock standing seam cladding custom made and installed by True Blue Roofing Pty Ltd.  This heritage material is double-thickness galvanised BlueScope Steel.  This means it has a double coating which is authentic and makes it more weather resistant.  We love this material, even though it looks quite shiny on installation day, it will eventually dull off over time to a dull grey.  Most old shearing sheds you see are made in a corrugated version of this heritage Galvanised Iron.

  • Corten Flat Lock Panel cladding.

Corten or COR-TEN® is a material that is installed initially looking quite metallic (as you can see in bridge photo in the gallery above) but then the dense protective patina layer which is composed of corrosion products is formed on the surface of the steel.  It gradually weathers over time to a ‘rust look finish’ of reddish brown that then gradually darkens with time.  It rusts under the influence of atmospheric conditions or you can speed up the process with a light spray of salt water.  It is a unique look that can make various architectural features of the building ‘pop’.  As you can see in this residence it has been used on the cantilever section of the main wing above and again on the bridge which is has just started the corrosion process.. keep posted for an updated pic down the track..

  • Corten Plate Steel Shelter over Garage Door

This extremely heavy Corten plate steel is installed looking all black and shiny (as you can see being installed in the gallery below) which you can either leave to corrode gradually with assistance of the climatic conditions OR you can hit it with a light mist of salt water and almost watch it start the corrosion process overnight!  It is simply incredible watching the changes in the corrosion colouring over time, it can take around 18 months for the full finish of the material to settle.

  • Mack Bros Straightline Cladding in Monolith.

Mack Bros Straightline 406 Roof Decking is another modern profile. It has a cover width of 406 mm and has a plain plan (with no groves) in between ribs. It also uses concealed brackets and has a high rib height of 48mm.  We chose this material for a feature wall the main wing of the house

  • Colorbond Monument Custom Flashings for Timber cladded garage

These custom made Colorbond flashings in Monument add a detail to the build that is extremely refined and clean.  These flashing’s are all designed by Christian to ensure the build is water tight and the finish is in keeping with the very modern / contemporary facade of the build.

  • Custom designed Interlocking Panel Eave in Colorbond® Monument

Colorbond Monument Custom Eave in interlocking panel

Christian has designed a custom solution for the eave of this modern residence which is in keeping with the clean lines.  It is a unique, maintenance free solution which is dramatic in its appearance but also extremely beneficial in its practicality.  Colorbond Monument is no doubt our most popular colour used in residential applications at the moment.  The Colorbond website describes the colour as follows:

Monument® is unashamedly a city colour. It will emphasise the modernity of today’s architecture. It is a strong, confident, neutral colour adding depth and strength to the colour palette.

We think using Colorbond Monument as a feature of this residential facade accentuates the design and intricate detail of this build in contrast to its natural setting overlooking Hovells Creek and The You Yangs Regional Park.

We clearly love the edgy, modern look and feel that different profiles, colours and textures of steel can add to a contemporary / modern residence architecture.  We can’t wait to show you the completed project!  True Blue Roofing have been servicing Melbourne, Geelong and The Surf Coast for over 10 years.  We take pride in our attention to detail and the fact that we specialise in the intricate design and installation process of these architectural wall cladding and roofing materials.  If you have an upcoming project that you would like to talk to us about, please contact us today or call 0407 558 212.
